GE HEALTHCARE
CANVASES OF CARE // NURSE PORTRAITS

For National Nurses Week, GE Healthcare and BBDO NY wanted to create a visualization for how many hours healthcare workers put into their jobs. Tapping artist Tim Okamura and experiential partner DotDotDash, Okamura painted within an infrared frame to count the number of brushstrokes in real-time and match the number of hours worked by the portrait subject. The five “Canvases of Care” paintings were left unfinished because a nurse’s work is also never done.

Role: Supervising Producer

Working in tandem with DotDotDash and the technology developed to count brushstrokes, we organized a process to capture Tim Okamura painting portraits over the course of ten days with both timelapse technology and cinema cameras.

In post production, we combined both mediums to display the labor of love the nurses put into every hour of work. The final videos aired across social media, local TV news outlets, GE Healthcare communications, and Times Square billboards.
